1. Oakland Raiders- JaMarcus Russell QB LSU |
As of now, it’s up in the air as to what Al Davis plans to do with the 1st overall pick in the draft. To me he has to spend it on JaMarcus Russell. Calvin Johnson is the best prospect in the draft, but I feel it would best suit the Raiders in the long run to draft Russell. Russell is big, strong, and athletic, especially for his size. Russell also possesses an extremely strong arm and has very solid accuracy. With so many holes, Al Davis should really consider trading down, but if he decides to hold on to the number one overall pick, Russell should be his guy. |
2. Detroit Lions- Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech |
It appears that Matt Millen will be taking another wide reciever in the first round, but he probably won’t be keeping him. It appears the Lions will draft Johnson and auction him off to whoever is willing to give them the best offer. I expect the Lions to trade down with a team like the Falcons, so they can select Patrick Willis. |
3. Cleveland Browns- Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame |
It seems like Cleveland is leaning towards drafting Brady Quinn with the third pick in the draft, even though I disagree. Brady Quinn is a great QB with a ton of potential, but I really think Cleveland needs a solid franchise running back like Adrian Peterson. The fact that Adrian Peterson is rumored to still be injured could have contributed to Phil Savage’s sudden decision, to take Brady Quinn. |
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Gaines Adams DE Clemson |
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would love to get their hands on Calvin Johnson, but I just don’t see it happening. I feel that Atlanta will wind up getting him by trading up to number two in the draft, so this leaves Tampa Bay with a decision on whether to draft Joe Thomas or Gaines Adams. I feel Tampa Bay will decide to go with the big time pass rusher, Gaines Adams. Adams could easily help the Bucs defense return to their glory days defensively a several years ago. |
5. Arizona Cardinals- Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin |
The Arizona Cardinals have got to be ecstatic with the recent rumors that Joe Thomas will be available to them at number five in the draft. The Cardinals lost Leonard Davis to free agency and they really need a solid LT and offensive line. Joe Thomas is one of the most gifted offensive tackle prospects ever to enter the draft. Thomas has great size, power, and everything else you look for in a lineman. |
6. Washington Redskins- Laron Landry S LSU |
Most people had Laron Landry as being only the 2nd best safety in the draft behind Reggie Nelson before the combine, but all of that changed when Landry ran a 4.35. I really think this is the Redskins guy, because of the Adam Archuletta trade that sent away their starting safety opposite of Sean Taylor. A safety duo of Taylor and Landry would be a very nice combination for Joe Gibbs struggling Redskins. |
7. Minnesota Vikings- Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma |
Adrian Peterson is a top 5 talent in the draft, so at seven, there’s no way the Vikings will pass up on him. Chester Taylor, was a solid back for the Vikings this past season, but Adrian Peterson will turn out to be an elite back in this league. Recent rumors have been flying around that Peterson has re-injured his collarbone, which is good news for Minnesota. |
8. Atlanta Falcons- Amobi Okoye DT Louisville |
I really think the Atlanta Falcons will be trading this pick to Detroit for the second pick in the draft, so they can draft Calvin Johnson, but if not, I see them drafting Amobi Okoye. Bobby Petrino, Atlanta’s new coach, knows Amobi Okoye really well since he used to coach him at Louisville, but it doesn’t take an ex-head coach of Louisville to realize how much talent Okoye has. |
9. Miami Dolphins- Levi Brown OT Penn State |
The Dolphins would love to have Brady Quinn fall to them at ninth, but I don’t see that happening now, so I see them trading for Kansas City quarterback Trent Green. Miami really needs offensive line help and now that they lost Damian McIntosh to free agency, left tackle becomes a huge need. Levi Brown is a solid left tackle, who dominated for four years at Penn State and should continue to do so in the NFL. |
10. Houston Texans- Leon Hall CB Michigan |
Houston would love to be able to get Levi Brown at ten, but if he’s gone I see them drafting Leon Hall. Hall, Darrelle Revis, and Chris Houston are all solid corners, but I feel Houston is leaning towards Hall. Hall has showed that he is a very solid corner. He posseses solid tackling abillities, solid speed, and solid instincts. The Texans could really use a corner like Houston opposite of Dunta Robinson. |
11. San Francisco 49ers- Adam Carriker DE Nebraska |
Adam Carriker has been flying up draft boards for the last couple of months. The reason why? Because he is a flat out solid defensive end. Carriker could turn out to be a perfect pick for the Niners, because most scouts believe he is very capable of being a solid 3-4 defensive end. At Nebraska, Carriker was in a 3-4 defense, but he has tremendous strength, size, and decent speed, which could turn him into a solid 3-4 defensive end. |
12. Buffalo Bills- Patrick Willis ILB Ole Miss |
Patrick Willis is no doubt the best linebacker in the draft. Willis is an absolutely incredible linebacker prospect standing at 6-1, 242 lbs, he ran a 4.37 at his pro-day. To go along with that, he is a superb tackler, with incredible instincts. Since Buffalo lost London Fletcher-Baker to the Washington Redskins via free agency, this would be a great pick for a young and upcoming defense up in Buffalo. I wouldn’t be surprised if Willis is gone though, because I see Detroit trading down to draft him. |
13. St. Louis Rams- Jamaal Anderson DE Arkansas |
Just like Adam Carriker, Jamaal Anderson has been shooting up draft boards for the last couple of months. Anderson is a defensive end prospect that has unlimited potential, but he was a one-year wonder at Arkansas, only putting up big numbers his junior year. This will make scouts a little skeptical, but other than that he is a solid pass rusher, which is what the Rams really need. |
14. Carolina Panthers- Greg Olsen TE Miami |
The Carolina Panthers have not had a solid tight end in a long time and that could change with Greg Olsen. Olsen was a late first or early second round pick before the combine, but after he ran both of his 40 times in the 4.4’s, Olsen guaranteed himself first round pick status. Olsen has everything you look for in a tight end, with solid hands, good speed, and solid route running, Olsen is a solid prospect. The only thing you would like to see more from Olsen, is more consistent blocking. |
15. Pittsburgh Steelers- Darrelle Revis CB Pittsburgh |
After the Pittsburgh Steelers lost Bill Cowher to a temporary retirement, they wasted no time bringing in Mike Tomlin to become their new coach, which left Steelers with a big question. Would Tomlin run a 3-4 defense, or a cover 2 defense, which he ran at Minnesota. Why not draft a corner that fits both systems then? In their own backyard possesses a corner by the name of Darrelle Revis who isn’t the quickest corner, but who is a corner with great tackling abilities, cover abilities, and punt return abilities. Revis and the Steelers would be a great marriage. |
16. Green Bay Packers- Marshawn Lynch RB California |
It seems as if the Packers might try and trade this pick to San Diego for Michael Turner, so obviously Lynch would be still on the board. Now that Brett Favre announced he would come back for another season in the NFL, it’s time to get him some more help offensively and Marshawn Lynch would provide just that. Ahman Green left via free agency to Houston, so that makes running back even more of a need for Green Bay. |
17. Jacksonville Jaguars- Reggie Nelson S Florida |
Jack Del Rio’s Jacksonville Jaguars really need a solid safety to solidify their already solid defense. Reggie Nelson fits that description. Nelson was thought to be the number one safety in the draft, until the combine, when Laron Landry ran a 4.35 40 time. Landry doesn’t have him beat by much though. Nelson can really lay his opponents out with superb tackling abilities, above-average speed, and solid instincts. Nelson could help the Jacksonville defense become even more scarier. |
18. Cincinnati Bengals- Michael Griffin S Texas |
With two other talented safeties in the draft, Michael Griffin, seems to have gone under the radar, but he’s an extremely talented safety. Some people might consider this a reach, but Cincinnati really needs a solid safety like Griffin. Griffin has everything you look for in a safety. Speed, tackling abilities, instincts, and ball skills. I feel Griffin deserves more attention than what he’s received |
19. Tennessee Titans- Dwayne Jarrett WR USC |
Not even Vince Young can do it by himself and now that Drew Bennett left via free agency, the Titans really need a solid wide receiver. Dwayne Jarrett has really been criticized by scouts for lack of speed and Mike Williams comparisons have buzzed around him, but Norm Chow, the former offensive coordinator at USC knows that Jarrett can just flat out catch the ball. The Titans have a plethora of receivers to pick from at 19, but I see them going with Jarrett, because he’s a great receiver and because of the Norm Chow connection. |
20. New York Giants- Joe Staley OT Central Michigan |
Joe Staley’s an extremely athletic offensive tackle. At 6-6, 306 lbs, Joe Staley ran a 4.81 40 time at the combine. Former Giants left tackle, Luke Petigout, left via free agency, so offensive line is a need the Giants must address. The Giants would love for Patrick Willis to fall to them at 20, but quite frankly, there’s no way that will happen. Staley would be a solid pick-up. |
21. Denver Broncos- Ted Ginn Jr. WR Ohio State |
It seems more and more like the Denver Broncos, will try and trade up to draft Calvin Johnson, Patrick Willis, or Adam Carriker, but if they stay at 21 and none of the above are on the board, I feel they’ll take Teddy Ginn. With Darrent Williams very sad death, Denver will need a new return man and that is Ted Ginn’s specialty. Besides being the electrifying return man that he is, Ginn is an excellent wide receiver, that could lineup across from Javon Walker, and cause a lot of problems for opposing defenses. |
22. Dallas Cowboys- Brandon Meriweather S/CB Miami |
The Dallas Cowboys really need a solid corner opposite of Terence Newman and they need a true free safety, so why not draft a prospect that can play both? Brandon Meriweather is an extremely talented safety who can play corner, that has taken some criticism for character issues, which I feel are bogus. Both Aaron Glenn and Ken Hamlin are getting up there in age and they both have had injury problems in the past, so Meriweather could easily cover for both. Cowboys fans would be extremely happy with this pick. |
23. Kansas City Chiefs- Robert Meachem WR Tennessee |
You could make a good argument that the Kansas City Chiefs have the worst wide receiver’s in the NFL. Samie Parker is not a true #2 option and Eddie Kennison is getting up there in age. Chris Hannon and Jeff Webb both show potential, but the Chiefs still need a true #1 and Meachem has the potential to be just that. During his junior year at Tennessee, Robert Meachem showed the college football world his terrific combination of hands, speed, and after the catch abilities. Kansas City would also give Alan Branch a hard look here, but I think Meachem gets the nod. |
24. New England Patriots- David Harris ILB Michigan |
One of the hottest prospects heading into the draft is David Harris. At the combine, Harris showed how quick he really is running a 4.63. The Patriots could use an inside linebacker to make an impact right away and eventually fill in for Teddy Bruschi, who is nearing the end of his career. A corner like Aaron Ross, Chris Houston, or Marcus McCauley would also be tempting for the Pats. |
25. New York Jets- Alan Branch NT Michigan |
Eric Mangini’s New York Jets really need a solid NT that fits the 3-4. At 25, the Jets could wind up with a possible steal in Alan Branch. Branch at one time was thought to be a top 5 pick, but since a workout with Kansas City Chief defensive line coach, Tim Krumrie, Branch’s stock has really dropped. Krumrie dominated Branch in the workout and made him look really bad. Branch could have a chance to really redeem himself in a Jets uniform. |
26. Philadelphia Eagles- Jarvis Moss DE Florida |
Jarvis Moss is an extremely athletic defensive end who played a big role in the Gators national championship run this past season. Jevon Kearse seems to constantly be hurt and the Eagles could use some defensive line help. A great pass rusher like Moss is a good fit here. Philly would also like to see a safety like Brandon Meriweather or Michael Griffin fall here, with the departure of Michael Lewis, but Moss has great value here. |
27. New Orleans Saints- Chris Houston CB Arkansas |
I really feel that Chris Houston is going to be a great cornerback in this league. Houston ran the fastest 40 time of any corner in the draft at the combine. Houston is also a very physical corner with a nose for the ball. The Saints were a great story this past season and they need to improve defensively to get closer to accomplishing every team’s goal of winning the Super Bowl. |
28. New England Patriots- Marcus McCauley CB Fresno State |
With so many great corners in this year’s class, Marcus McCauley has severely gone under the radar. McCauley is 6-1, 203 lbs, and is extremely quick, with a 40 time of 4.37. The Patriots really need a corner, because the Asante Samuel situation is up in the air and they really lack depth at corner. I feel McCauley could turn out to be a steal. |
29. Baltimore Ravens- Ben Grubbs OG Auburn |
The Baltimore Ravens have a solid offensive line anchored by the all-pro left tackle Jonathan Ogden. They could use a solid left tackle to eventually take over for Ogden, but they also need a guard to come and play right now. Ben Grubbs can do just that. Grubbs is solidly built, athletic, and a smart football player. Justin Blalock would also be a possibility here, since he is also able to play tackle, but Grubbs is a better all-around guard. |
30. San Diego Chargers- Dwayne Bowe WR LSU |
Dwayne Bowe is one of the most physical receivers in the draft. Bowe doesn’t have the best hands, but he is extremely physical, with average speed, route running skills, and superb blocking skill for a wide out. The San Diego Chargers need another receiver, because Vincent Jackson has potential, but they lack depth at the position and Eric Parker is not a solid option as a #1 or #2 receiver. |
31. Chicago Bears- Jon Beason OLB Miami |
The Chicago Bears really need an outside linebacker with Lance Briggs wanting out of Chicago. In this situation they would have a tough decision, because three talented OLB’s would be on the board. Paul Posuszny, Lawrence Timmons, and Jon Beason are all talented, but I think Beason will get the nod, because many scouts feel he fits the Tampa 2 perfectly. Wide receiver would also be an option here for Lovie Smith’s Bears. |
32. Indianapolis Colts- Lawrence Timmons OLB Florida State |
After winning the Super Bowl, it’s time for the Colts to continue to try and get better. Lawrence Timmons can definitely help them get better with his athleticism and tackling, which make him a good fit for the Tampa 2. Paul Posluszny is another guy they should look at here, but I think Timmons will have an edge over Posuszny. |
Round Two
33. Oakland Raiders- Justin Blalock OG/OT Texas |
34. Detroit Lions- Aaron Ross CB Texas |
35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Justin Harrell DT Tennessee |
36. Cleveland Browns- Tony Ugoh OT Arkansas |
37. Chicago Bears- Sidney Rice WR South Carolina |
38. Arizona Cardinals- Paul Posluszny OLB Penn State |
39. Atlanta Falcons- Anthony Spencer DE Purdue |
40. Miami Dolphins- Brandon Mebane DT California |
41. Minnesota Vikings- Craig Davis WR LSU |
42. San Francisco 49ers- Anthony Gonzalez WR Ohio State |
43. Buffalo Bills- Antonio Pittman RB Ohio State |
44. Atlanta Falcons- Eric Weddle CB/S Utah |
45. Carolina Panthers- Aaron Rouse S Virginia Tech |
46. Pittsburgh Steelers- Ryan Kalil C USC |
47. Green Bay Packers- Zach Miller TE Arizona State |
48. Jacksonville Jaguars- Victor Abiamiri DE Notre Dame |
49. Cincinnati Bengals- Turk McBride DT Tennessee |
50. Tennessee Titans- Jonathan Wade CB Tennessee |
51. New York Giants- Brian Leonard FB Rutgers |
52. St. Louis Rams- Samson Satele C Hawaii |
53. Dallas Cowboys- Steve Smith WR USC |
54. Kansas City Chiefs- Arron Sears OG/OT Tennessee |
55. Seattle Seahawks- Ben Patrick TE Delaware |
56. Denver Broncos- Tim Crowder DE Texas |
57. Philadelphia Eagles- Sabby Piscitelli S Oregon State |
58. New Orleans Saints- Buster Davis ILB Florida State |
59. New York Jets- DeMarcus “Tank” Tyler NT North Carolina State |
60. Miami Dolphins- Tanard Jackson CB/S Syracuse |
61. Baltimore Ravens- Charles Johnson DE Georgia |
62. San Diego Chargers- Anthony Waters ILB Clemson |
63. New York Jets- Ryan Harris OT Notre Dame |

64. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Jason Hill WR Washington State |
